I became involved with Operation Walk In 2018. My first trip was to Honduras. I had no idea what was is store for me. What I experienced was something that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I discovered the amazing reward of giving your absolute all and not expecting anything in return. I worked with the hardest working, most professional, and most motivated individuals who all had one goal in mind which was the success of the mission. The mission to give the most amazing people to ever grace my life the opportunity to walk again without pain, to be able to resume a more normal life, to feel like a contributing and more productive human being.
I discovered the true beauty of practicing medicine with the patient being my sole priority. One of my favorite moments was Day 1 when we participated in a multidisciplinary meeting in which we discussed all the cases. Where I ask, can anesthesia, internal medicine, nursing, and physical therapy all collaborate on a surgical a case? My trip rejuvenated my hope in humanity. We gave the most grateful people an opportunity that they would have never had. I am so grateful, honored and humbled to have been a member of team Operation Walk Carolinas 2018 and Operation Walk Carolinas 2019.
