My name is Katie Powell, I live and work in Wilmington, NC. I am originally from West Virginia, but have made a home I love on the coast! I have a 5 year old dog named Cali who loves attention, walks, and playtime. I am a Nurse Anesthetist at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and I love every minute of my job. I went on my first medical mission trip 5 years ago as a Registered Nurse and that experienced changed my perspective on living and made me fall in love with mission work.
During that trip, I realized that medical missions is a calling I wanted to pursue and wanted to do so as a Nurse Anesthetist. Fast forward 5 years later and I am finally able to start fulfilling my dream in serving others through anesthesia. During the mission trips I have been on in the past, the people of Central America have shown the essence of kindness, compassion, thankfulness, appreciation, selflessness, gratitude, and love. I had concluded prior to my first trip that I was going on a medica l mission trip in order to help those less fortunate than myself, what I came to realize is the people and patients I encountered helped me more than I could ever help them by showing me all of these attributes of love, gratefulness, compassion, kindness, gratitude, contentment, and appreciation.
They made my cup runneth over. They helped me to understand that what is most important in our lives is taking care of each other, helping one another when there is a need, and building relationships with each other founded in love. Being apart of Operation Walk Carolinas is this for me. I am excited to help and enrich the lives of those who need it now. I feel the utmost gratefulness to work alongside other medical professionals who have a heart for service and giving, and I know that great work and love will be shown by all those involved.
